This
traditional village house is situated on the corner of a quiet street
only a few yards away from the main square. Shops in or near the square
include a baker, a general store, a tabac, a hairdresser, a bar and a
post-office. Barbecue meals are sometimes sold in the bar.
The living-room is comfortably furnished and contains a satellite
television, DVD player and 100 films, radio/cassette and telephone. There
are many books and cassettes to suit most tastes. The living-room is dominated
by the large traditional-style fireplace. The kitchen area is well-equipped
with a dish-washer, refrigerator, a four-ringed electric double-oven cooker,
a microwave, dishwasher and an excellent stock of crockery, cutlery and
utensils. The dining-table seats seven with ease.
Terrazzo-tiled stairs lead to the first floor which includes one
single bedroom and one twin bedroom, a shower-room with washbasin, w.c.
and washing-machine. There is a second separate w.c. on this floor. On
the second floor, there is one double bedroom and another larger
twin bedroom. The double bedroom contains a shower and washbasin. The
floor in these rooms is carpeted. Most of these rooms have tall windows
with glass doors opening inwards, enclosed on the outside by a metal railing.
The bedrooms are comfortable, well-furnished and fully equipped with wardrobe
and drawer space. There is a travel cot in the house.
The
stairs continue up to the roof terrace at the top of the house.
The terrace occupies the whole floor area of the building. It includes
a glass sun-lounge, containing a refrigerator, a small oven/grill, equipment
for drinks and snacks, and an iron and ironing board. The outside area
is divided into two parts by a partition which acts as a wind break. It
includes a barbecue, a large table and ample seating. There is also a
drying area with washing-line. The railing renders it safe for children.
From the terrace, there is a magnificent view over the terracotta tiled
roofs of the village towards the Alberes hills, the eastern range of the
Pyrenees whose ridge constitutes the Spanish border. The view extends
along the coast from Argeles sur Mer, past the cathedral town of Elne,
Saint Cyprien and Perpignan, to the northern hills and round to the foothills
of Pic Canigou.
